The Stairs Tower - Sibiu

The Stairs' Tower is a point of interest in Sibiu, Romania.


Of the 3 access gates opening to the first fortification precinct, this tower is the only one that was preserved and dates back to the 13th century. It is one of the oldest buildings of Sibiu. The current shape dates back to 1542. The tower is a massive, one-storey brick construction. At the base, it has a vaulted passage that allows access to the stairs connecting the Upper Town and the Lower Town in the direction of Turnului street. On the side it has an ached passageway towards the Redemption Corner (BUSSWINKEL) from below the curved wall delimitating the parochial house garden.
