The Bridge of Lies is a main point of interest located in the city of
Sibiu, Romania.
The Bridge of Lies is one of the symbols of the city of
Sibiu. Initially built of wood, it was rebuilt of forged iron in 1859 by Fredericus Hutte. It is the first forged iron bridge in Romania. It was the first bridge which was not supported by pillars, so it was called the "lying bridge". Since the German word "lying" (lugenmarchen) was the homonym of the word "lie", locals started to call the bridge "The Bridge of Lies" and legends emerged explaining its meaning.
