Sutu Palace

Information
Map
Sutu Palace is found in the University Square.

The palace was built in the neo-gothic style between 1833 and 1835, according to the plans of architects Conrad Schwink and Johann Veit. It has preserved the original decorations of sculptor Karl Storck. The Palace was the luxurious residence of C. Grigore Sutu, heir of the Sutu family, a Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time.

During the last century, the palace was surrounded by a park and it was famous for the garden displaying exotic plants and animals (pheasants, peons) and for the pool that reminded guests of the fountains of the Versailles Palace. Balls and luxurious evening parties were organized at the Palace.

Currently, the Sutu Palace hosts the Arts Section of the Museum of History and Arts of the city of Bucharest.
