The Upper Town is a point of interest in the city of
Sibiu,
Romania. It is a medieval area.
The Upper Town was entirely fortified (the plateau) between 1330-1366 and is considered to be the historic area of the city, surrounded by a third belt of fortifications. It starts from the market encircling the first church built up on the hill, currently named
Huet Square, and goes on with the
Small Square and
Large Square. The oldest streets in the Upper Town are the following, in chronological order: Avram Iancu, Mitropoliei, Magheru and Nicolae Balcescu.
