Mangalia is a resort on the
Black Sea coast. Its current name is derived from Pangalia, the Byzantine Greek word meaning "the most beautiful".
The beautiful beach is covered with soft smooth sand. The spa enjoys favorable climate conditions (the annual average temperature is 11.2 degrees Celsius and the temperature in July is 26-28 degrees Celsius, with annual average precipitations of 377 mm) and the Mangalia Lake.
North of the Mangalia Lake there are rich mineral water springs (mezothermal, sulphurous and radioactive). Mangalia is the only sea resort with mineral springs that have been discovered and used from the time of the Roman Empire. Mangalia is well-known in Europe due to the unique therapeutical mix of mineral water springs, mud from the Techirghiol lake and sea water. The treatment facilities include medical recovery units, installations for hot baths with sulphurous water and sea water, mud therapy, kinetotherapy, hydrotherapy, sauna, rooms for medical gymnastics and geriatrics cabinets.
The Mangalia stud farm offers carriage rides along the seashore or horse riding lessons. Tourists have plenty of entertainment possibilities in Mangalia: nightclubs, cinemas, sports fields and boat trips.
