Bihor is one of the counties in the
Crisana region, in the north-western part of
Romania. Its neighboring counties are: Satu-Mare in the north, Salaj and
Cluj in the west, Alba County in south-west and
Arad in the south. The border with Hungary is in the west.
The county's surface is 7,544 sq. kms., and thus Bihor ranks sixth in Romania according to its size. The county has a population of 596,951 inhabitants. The city of Oradea is the county capital and has 206,235 inhabitants. The administrative structure of this county comprises 4 municipalities (Beius, Marghita, Oradea, Salonta), 6 towns (Alesd, Nucet, Sacuieni, Stei, Valea lui Mihai, Vascau), 90 communes and 429 villages.
The landscape in Bihor county is rich and complex. There are mountains (24%), hills and valleys (32%) and plains (44%).
